PROTEK Consulting is a Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB) that places top talent as consultants with companies in fields including Information Technology, Government Services, Financial Services and Pharma/Biomed. Our senior leadership below has owned and operated staffing companies since 1997.

Penny Redolf Harrison, President

Penny began her career in staffing in 1999, when she was hired as a recruiter for Aerotek. In her second year there, she was recognized as a top performer and ranked 4th nationally. 

Penny’s first child was born in 2002, and she took time off then to raise her family.  But soon her passion for staffing led her back to work, helping her husband Rick to grow his Rockville-based staffing company, EDGE Professional Services. 

Rick and Penny sold EDGE in 2011, and since then Penny has sought the right opportunity to launch her own staffing firm – one that would continue EDGE’s tradition of focusing on people rather than profit. PROTEK Consulting is the realization of that dream. 

Penny’s vision for PROTEK is to truly empower the company’s consultants and clients [to do what?], and then share the resulting success with its community and charities. Penny supports three charitable causes close to her heart:  Autism, Kidney Disease and Foster Pets.   

A mother of three, Penny lives in Potomac with Rick and their three rescue pups. She is an active volunteer for Potomac PetConnect and the local Parent Teacher Student Association. 

Rick Harrison, Executive Vice President

Rick’s career in staffing began in 1992, when he was hired by COMSYS Technical Services as an account manager. By 1997, he had founded his own staffing company, the Rockville-based EDGE Professional Services, LLC, and he served as its president for the next 14 years. In 2011, EDGE was acquired by Artech Information Systems, LLC, and Rick assumed the role of managing director. In 2014,  he became senior vice president of sales and operations, and remained in that role until early 2016, when Penny and he founded PROTEK.  

Rick earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1988. He is an avid golfer and devoted father to his twin daughters and his son, who has autism, a cause the Harrisons actively support. Rick, a kidney transplant recipient, is a trustee of the American Kidney Fund. He, Penny and the kids share their Potomac home with an ever-changing cast of foster dogs, and enjoy spending time at their vacation home in Ocean City, MD.

Suzanne Walsh, Director of Operations

Suzanne joined Rick’s first staffing company, EDGE Professional Services, in 2009 as a business manager with a background in sales, business analysis and project management. She moved on to Artech in the role of client account manager when Artech acquired EDGE in 2011. Over the next seven years, Suzanne was promoted to the position of facility security officer and then to manager, sales and administration. She left Artech in January of 2017 to work with Penny and Rick at PROTEK.

Suzanne earned her Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications and Speech Communications from Maryland’s Towson University in 1987. A mother of four, she lives in Gaithersburg, MD with her husband, Don, and is an active volunteer for the local high school Parent Teacher Student Association.

Eric Shepardson, Director of Sales

Eric’s career spans more than 10 years.  Eric began selling IT Services and Solutions with Robert Haft than he joined SNI.  While at SNI,  Eric moved from Business Development Manager to Regional Vice President. 

Eric is passionate about workforce solutions enjoying countless longstanding relationships in the industry.  Eric enjoys spending personal time with his wife and 2 kids as well as golfing with friends.  

John Saia, Director of Sales

John brings a strong background in sales and business development to his role at PROTEK. He joined the company in December of 2016 after spending a year as the sales branch manager for Profiles Staffing and Recruiting in Baltimore, MD. From 2012 to 2015 John worked at Artech in the role of senior business development officer/national account team lead. In 2014, he was named to Artech’s Presidents Club, and also received an honorable mention for Employee of the Year. Before Artech, John worked in sales at both Arc Water Treatment Company of Maryland, Inc. and Ferguson Enterprises in Maryland and Virginia.

John earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Christopher Newport University in Newport, VA. He lives with his wife Christi and their son in Elkridge, MD. He enjoys golf and is committed to his CrossFit workouts.

Cory Glaze, Senior Recruiter

Cory joined PROTEK in January 2017, bringing with him over six years of technical recruiting expertise. He also worked at Artech, where he was a technical recruiter for more than four years and was named Employee of the Year in 2014. Previously he served for two years as a resource manager at Convergenz in McLean, VA. He lives in Baltimore, MD with his wife Jessica and their 3 dogs. He enjoys recreational shooting sports as well as watching the Ravens and Orioles in his free time.
